milk morals

I have just returned from the market and have had an interesting experience. While I was perusing the produce section I noticed that the man next to me was treating himself to the "buffet" of fresh fruits and veggies. As I went to test the nectarines for ripeness I witnessed him helping himself to one of them. Well, that's one surefire way of finding out if the fruit is ripe, I thought. I tried to ignore it thinking that the poor guy is just down on his luck and starved....but I couldn't. As I left the fruit section and made my way to the veggies I found him on my right shoving handfuls of the bulk salad into his mouth and found myself repulsed at this sight. I had to find someone, a manager to report this! Just then, the produce guy walked in with a box of fresh lettuce.....I quietly relayed my dismay and alerted him to the situation. He swiftly escourted the guy out and it was all over.

As I continued with my shopping I wondered, had I deprived this poor man of his dinner, or had I done the right thing? Would prices go up for consumers like me as people like him treat the store as a buffet?!?!?! Would karma come back to haunt me?

I still cannot figure out if I did the right thing? Why is that? I think deep down that I did the right thing but for some reason I still question it....

Be careful, your humanity may be showing. I,m sure the supermarket was saved from bankruptcy by your dilligent public spirited action. Hope you sleep well tonight, but hey, go with what your heart says

A day later, with less hormones running through my veins, I look back to this entry and know that I did the right thing. I was really sickened by this person's actions and know that it was the right thing to do. There are a bunch of places that would gladly feed him in this neighborhood....I realized this after, so he's definately going to starve. And you're right, I'm sure that the store will not go bankrupt over a few pieces of fresh produce being consumed by this one person....even though I'm sure that there are others other there who are never caught.

It was more about how clouded our minds can get when there are preggie hormones or regular hormones surging through the bod.
